10/4/05 - Interview with Kenta Cho
I've been late getting this out, but we have an interview with Kenta Cho of ABA Games up. He's made a lot of really awesome little shmups, so you should check it out. And then download his games. And play them.

I will have a bit of a site redesign next week to make a place for non-review articles and bios of the staff. Also I will add some screenshots of ABA games to the interview as soon as have a moment.

9/8/05 - New review up
Wook has just finished his review of the Asteroids clone, 'Troid. I shall now attempt to find new Asteroids clones to saddle him with.

9/6/05 - Contest winner!
Jakob Shütt of Berlin, Germany is the winner of our first contest with an amazing score of 20,015,418 points! We all tremble in fear and awe of his amazing shmup powers! Congratulations, Jakob! Your prize will be shipping tomorrow! Take a look at his frightening powers here.

I also just picked up last month's copy of the British gaming rag, Retro Gamer, because it had a coverdisc with 50 shmups on it. As I had guessed, they are all freeware games that you can find elsewhere, but it's nice to have them in one package, and the DVD-case will look good next to the one for Starscape. However, the magazine wasn't all that hot (and, oddly enough, had nothing inside about shmups), so I wouldn't go out of my way to find a copy. I do have to say that this is a fine t-shirt, and I may have to pick one up for myself.

8/20/05 - First Contest and new reviews
We're having our first contest: a high score contest with Cho Ren Sha 68K. Details here! The prize is a copy of Layer Section for the PC, which is a hard-to-find classic.

Reviews are also starting to trickle in, with our first venture into the portable arena, Nanostray on the DS. Expect a review of Sigma Star Saga shortly, which I can only hope lives up to the action RPG/shump standards set by the Guardian Legend.

On a related note, a lot of people have been telling me they don't know the Guardian Legend recently. I am ashamed and dissapointed in you all! This may help.

8/3/05 - Delays on the Highway of Life
Well, it's not an excuse, but Verizon has screwed up my DSL at the new place. We were supposed to have it when my fiancee moved in back in the beginning of July, and it still won't be set up until the 8th, thanks to massive blunders on their part. I'm more than a little miffed.

Once things are back up, I should be getting back on track. New reviews will be rolling in, including some new Mac ones, and we will announce our first contest (with, I think, an excellent prize). Until then, I have put up a review of the excellent Japanese made shmup called Idinaloq.

Sorry about the delays. I know it's not a good way to start a site.

7/7/05 - New mini-shmup from ABA
ABA games (who made many of the shmups in my first mini-review) have a new game called GunRoar. It plays best with dual analog sticks, but my second analog stick was acting up (and don't worry, it has a single-stick mode and a keyboard "2-stick" mode). Hopefully I can get that resolved before I pull together another mini-review.

6/25/05 - Great beams throughout history
I know it's only mildly related to our mainline here, but here's an article on Hollywood's greatest beams. I've always been a fan of beams.

6/21/05 - Welcome!
Welcome to Strafing Run! We're hoping to build this into a haven for classical shmups on the PC. Right now we just have some reviews up, but hopefully more resources will come as time goes on! Please excuse the mess as I am still cleaning and tweaking the code quite a bit.

We're just PC-focused for now. If there is interest, we may expand our horizons a bit, but for now there is plenty in the indie PC game development world to keep us busy for a while.

Enjoy, and feel free to drop us a line at the Giantrobeast Dot Com forum, or by e-mail!
